Shrimp Culture Management at First Month Phase 05 – The Problems of Condition/Quality of Small Shrimp

At discussion before there have been explained the problems which related to problems of pond water environment. At discussion this time will be explained the problems of shrimp culture at first month phase which related to condition/quality of small shrimps.

If evaluated from characteristics of shrimp culture at first month phase, hence a monitoring to problems symptom related to condition/quality of small shrimps needed to conduct with careful and smoothness because the shrimps have small size. The problems related to shrimp condition at first month phase are among others:

1. Small shrimps convoy around wall of pond continually. This phenomenon indicates that condition of pond water at that moment is uncomfortable shrimp need. The fry/small shrimps convoy can happened on every moment at first month phase, even at next phases this phenomenon also can happened. (The discussion related to shrimp convoy have been explained at discussion before).
   
   
2. Small shrimps seen too many patching in pond wall. There are two alternative condition if this phenomenon happened there are (i) fry/small shrimps is in mass moulting pursuance, or (ii) fry/small shrimps indicated infected by a problem/disease. Both the alternative condition is serious indication to happened problems in pond water at that moment.
   
   If happened condition is mass moulting, though shrimps saw too many patching in wall of pond, hence after to repair process of water quality hence this phenomenon will soon decrease. On the contrary if fry/small shrimps is indication have been infected by a problem/disease, hence this phenomenon will continue with fry/small shrimps which seen like kite on the pond water surface with shrimp husk color condition seen matt. If happened condition is disease indication and situation have increase seriously hence needed decision to take is pond water cleansing in order to avoid financial loss become too much.
   
   
3. Appearance of fry/small shrimps is tardy. At some condition, the appearance of fry/small shrimps is tardy even come up to the end of first month phase (end of fourth week). At normal condition, at second week till third week, fry/small shrimps have started look within pond water. There are two alternative if appearance of fry/small shrimps is tardy there are; (i) shrimps have been hit by a problem/disease this condition is not detected early on because the size of shrimps still to small relatively so the shrimp population decrease drastically. If this matter that happened hence a needed decision to take is by cleansing of pond water or return conducted addition of fry, (ii) small shrimp still reside in the pond water bottom with population still awake because natural feed stock within pond water still adequate enough, so that small shrimps still activated at pond bottom.
   
   
4. Mossy shrimp, that is a condition where shrimp body (especially part of epidermis) grown by moss. This condition is close relationship with pond water quality problems out at that moment there is pond bottom grown by moss because brightness factor of the pond water is very high and it is not soon handled. Mossy shrimps are not only happened at the first month phase but also can happen at every moment at one cycle period of shrimp culture. 5. Thin shrimp, at this condition the shrimps seen “thin” even in an extreme condition, the shrimp husk is become blue chromatic and flabby. This condition happened because at the (time) of availability of natural feed have reduced/empty and this condition is not soon anticipated early possibly so that shrimp population in pond in a feed insufficiency condition.
   
   
6. The size uniform of fry/small shrimps seen vary. This condition can happen because wafting condition at the time of fry disperse or lack of natural feed within pond water. This condition can stand-out at a time of end of first month phase especially at a time of conducted shrimp sampling for the first time

The problems related to quality/condition of fry/small shrimps at first month like above mentioned is a problem that related with pond water environment problems which have been discussed before. The problems shall be detected early possibly since first week sub phase till end of fourth week sub phase in order not to generate the constraint and problems for management at the next months phase in one cycle period of shrimp culture at that moment.
