Identification of Pond Water Quality Problems - 01

Pond waters are closed waters that are stagnant and limited by plot of a pond, so in terms of water dynamics that are relatively static and its waters quality depends on influence / treatment from the outside. Ecosystems that form in it can be said is not an ecosystem that can control the balance and stability of pond waters by itself as in a natural and open waters ecosystem.

A waters ecosystem that are always maintained in balance and stability is an area that can provide safe and accessible for organisms that live in it

Pond waters ecosystem balance is influenced by two main factors namely the constituent elements of an ideal composition in terms of types and functions that make up a food chain in these waters. Other factors that determine the balance of pond waters ecosystems are the processes that occur in it whether it is biology, chemistry and physics took place in ideal conditions and also had an impact that does not endanger to life in these waters.

Pond waters ecosystem stability means that ability of these ecosystems to maintain their equilibrium to face a change or turbulence caused by outside influences. The pond waters ecosystem with fluctuated balancing levels will make a significant impact for the life within it, so by itself, it will be a place that is not conducive to living organisms in the pond waters ecosystem.

Based on the description above, the pond waters ecosystem which is a closed ecosystem is very vulnerable to emergence of problems concerning both pond waters quality and the condition and quality of shrimps. Pond waters quality problems in general can be caused by several factors, are among others:
  1. Internal factors, there is a problems caused by the pond water condition itself. In this condition occurs the processes which is taking within it, tend not controlled and can not be controlled by a a natural mechanism balance.

  2. External factors, there is a problems caused by pond outside influences and usually caused by weather changes.

  3. Treatment error factors , there is a water quality problems caused by applied cultivation technical faults. This condition occurred caused by a decision that was not based on careful observation and analysis in accordance with existing conditions in the field.
Pond water quality problems should be known and identified early in order that shocks occurring in these waters did not result in a more serious problem for shrimps. Referring to an observation to conditions and quality of shrimp in ponds waters, the level of water quality problems can be classified into four categories, there are:
  1. Light. At this level, pond water quality problems have not affected to the condition, quality, nature / behavior and activities of shrimp in the waters. The problems that arise just limited to pond water environmental conditions changes.

  2. Medium. At this level of pond water quality problems have not affected to the condition and quality of shrimps, but had a real influence on the nature / behavior and activities of shrimps in these waters, such as shrimp do convoys, decreased appetite and tend to be passive.

  3. Heavy. At this level of pond water quality problems, it have a real influence on the condition, quality, nature / behavior and activities of shrimps in the waters, such as disease-infected shrimp, shrimp begin floating on water surface, much against the pond wall, and shrimp appearance in ancho are very much and their very passive motion.

  4. Very Heavy/Serious. At this level of pond water quality problems, it has resulted in mass mortality of shrimps, thus a decisions making more leading to harvesting.
Level of water quality problems can be said to have a correlation with water quality management that conducted before the waters get into trouble especially concerning the level of measurement accuracy and the condition of the shrimp, water management methods, treatments that have been used, and the period of handling the problem. An unidentified quality issues and indicated early will aggravate the level of the problem, because the accumulation of problems growing and can spread to other aspects of the problems. If this condition occurs, the level of these problems are not only heavier but also more complicated in the decision making process.
