Identification of Pond Water Quality Problems - 01

Pond water is a kind of closed water and limited by pond walls, so if viewed from water dynamics characteristic the pond water is a static water and it qualities very depend on treatment/influence from outside. An ecosystem which creates within pond water can not control equality and water stability by it self like on natural and open water ecosystem. An ecosystem that always preserved on it equality and stability is a comfortable and safe area for organisms community which live within it.

The equality of water ecosystem is influenced by two factors, there are: (i) composer elements are compiled by ideal composition viewed from kind and function which create a food chain within pond water, also (ii) the process of biology, chemistry and physics are happen on ideal condition too and it’s not dangerous for water biota.

The stability of water ecosystem is meaning an ability of ecosystem to preserve it equality within changes or unstable condition that caused by outside influence. A water ecosystem which have fluctuate stability will give a significant impacts for shrimp live, with the result that condition will make a uncomfortable place for water organisms.

Based on explanation like mentioned above, so the pond water ecosystem is very susceptible to create any problems included pond water quality as well as shrimp quality and shrimp condition. The general factors that it can caused a problems of water quality, are among others:

1. Internal factors, there are the problems that caused by pond water condition it’s self. At this condition, the process which happen within it is not under control and can not controlled by natural equality mechanisms.
   
   
2. External factors, there are the problems that caused by outside and usually caused by weather changes.
   
   
3. Treatment error factors , there are the problems that caused by technical errors which to be implicated. This condition is happen because a bad decision making (no based on accurate monitoring and analysis in line with factual condition at field)

Pond water quality problems are better to be known and identified early in order to avoid a more serious problem for shrimps. In connection with monitoring of shrimp condition and quality within pond water, so the problems of pond water quality can grouped on four categories, there are:

1. Light. At this level, the problems of pond water quality not affected yet for condition, quality, behavior and activities of shrimps within water. The problems just included on a changes of pond water environment condition.
   
   
2. Medium. At this level, the problems of pond water quality not affected yet for condition and quality of shrimp, but it already affected for behavior and activities of shrimps within water (like convoy, reduction in food consumption, and become passive.
   
   
3. Heavy. At this level, the problems of pond water quality are already affected for condition, quality, behavior and activities of shrimps within water (the shrimps begin infected by disease, drifting on water surface, too many shrimps become adhere at pond wall, too many shrimps at ancho and become passive/lethargy).
   
   
4. Very Heavy/Serious. At this level, the problems of pond water quality are already reasoned a mass mortality to shrimp, so the decision making more direct to harvesting decision.

The level of water quality problems have a correlation with water quality management that it implicated before affected by a problems. This matter is related with the level of water and shrimp condition monitoring, water management method, implicated treatment, and a time period to problem handling. A water quality problem which it is not identified and indicated early will make more serious problem level, because there is happen a problem accumulation that can create other problems. If this condition is occur, so the water quality problem is not just become to serious but it will more complicated to decision making process.
