Shrimp Predators and Competitors Within Pond Water

Shrimp predators and competitors within pond water are another water quality problem too, but it has no correlation with the problem that already discussed before. The predators and competitors are a water biota and living together with the shrimp within pond water.

A predator is a kind of carnivore biota that attack and consume the shrimp, i.e. kakap (Lates calcarifer), kuro (Eleutheronema tetradactylum), and others. The existence of predators within pond water is no too affected for water quality viewed from water equality as well as its stability, but it very affected to survival rate and shrimp population.

A competitor is a kind of water biota that it involved on feed competitive with the shrimp within the pond water, i.e. Tilapia mosambica, T. niloticus, crab and other water biota. Like a predator, the existence of competitor just affected for shrimp feeding program and its not affected for water quality.

The existence of predator and competitor within pond water can reasoned by many factors, there are among others:

1. The process of land cultivation preparation is not maximal to exterminate the predators and competitors.
   
   
2. The water inlet channels is setting without water filter, so the predators and competitor can go into pond water.
   
   
3. The predators and competitors come into pond water when it’s still on eggs/larvae stage n spite of the water inlet channel is already to set filters.

The existence of kind and abundant of shrimp predators and competitors within pond water will give a serous impact if their quantities are very abundance and not handled immediately. The indicators of predators and competitor existence within pond water can monitored through some methods, there are among others :

1. Monitoring at routines shrimp sampling activity, because usually the predators and competitors will follow with jala (a fish casting net, one of sampling equipment) with the result that we can know what of kind them also we can estimate their abundance within pond water.
   
   
2. Monitoring and identification at routines acho checking
   
   
3. Monitoring and identification directly through movement and activity of the predators and competitors within pond water.

A controlling and extermination to shrimp predators and competitors within pond water can be done with using a saponin with deathly dosage for both of them. The implementation of this method is need attentively with condition and quality of shrimp at that moment and the other hand it don’t be implemented when the shrimps at a weakness condition or at mass moulting moment. The saponin is better to give into pond water at sun’s rays is bright and clear (daylight) and the high of pond water is low also for more optimized result the water wheels is better to operate intensively. At this condition the saponin affect will very effectively and deathly for shrimp predators and competitor. Afer this treatment, carcass of predator and competitor is better to lift and move to outside in order to avoid a decomposed process of carcass of them at pond bottom, then the water quality is need to improve again by water circulation so that does not affecting to shrimp.
