Inoculation of Pond Waters 2 – Methods

Inoculation of pond water activities in its application has relevance to water circulation and fertilization activities. Circulation is necessary in a process of replacing ond waters, which will be used as a container / media to growth and development of plankton seed which is resulted by water inoculation results, while fertilization is needed to spur growth of plankton seed.

Applied activities stages of water inoculation process usually are as follows:
  1. Decrease pond water volume in a pond which is to inoculated through continuous water circulation to replace an old pond water until certain water levels.

  2. Clean biota that can disturb the process of plankton growth in the ponds, which would be inoculated.

  3. Determine a pond that will serve as a source of seed plankton with the criterias as mentioned above.

  4. Use tools of inoculation in the form spiral hoses and water pumps to adjacent of a pond and a water reservoir container to a relatively remote location.

  5. Inoculation are conducted as continuous processes, especially at morning until afternoon so that plankton seeds which moved can take advantage of sunlight in conducting fotosinthesa to spur growth and development in a new pond.

  6. At the time of the inoculation, water circulation process at a pond which was inoculated should be halted so that the plankton seeds does not go wasted at the circulation.

  7. Water inoculation process is accompanied by fertilizing activities both organic and inorganic so plankton growth process can take place with immediate.

  8. Inoculation process was stopped if a pond that inoculated, its had been produce a desired plankton
Plankton growth process with this inoculation method should be used as a basic consideration in determining a fry density patterns which is in unison with it aim to condition-ponds that are contains shrimp on varied age. In adult shrimps, water quality conditions, especially plaktons are already formed and more stable, while the young shrimps / fry density age, the waters are relatively unstable conditions and more easily shaken by changes in surrounding environment.

A fry density patterns which is in unison very recommended on shrimp farming activities conducted on a season with high rainfall levels, because with this fry density pattern. plankton seeds availability is always available. In this season, of qualities and conditions of the waters are very susceptible to a collaps of plankton, especially in ponds which unstable waters conditions due to the influence of rainfall and sunlight intensity is low. Such conditions can be anticipated with the water inoculation process from a pond with a stable water into ponds that have plankton collaps.
