How To Reach An Optimal Value of FCR ( Food Conversion Ratio)

An optimal value of FCR can be interpreted as FCR which owning an optimal advantage value (profit value) either through technical of shrimp culture and financial that obtained passing management of feeding program as according to shrimp requirement level in one period cycle of shrimp culture.

In order to get an optimal value of FCR can be conducted through some alternative activity as follows:

1. Conducting a careful monitoring to behavior fry/small shrimps at first month phase (fry early disperse –sub phase of fourth week) to know shrimp requirement to feed supply from outside (artificial feed) which caused by decrease/empty of natural feed stock within pond water. If fry/small shrimp have shown the behavior (like convoy, creep at pond wall, etc), soon start to be conducted feeding with “blind feeding” system.
   
   
2. At conducting “blind feeding” that is better have started to feed checking at anco harshly to estimate shrimp population requirement to feed per day.
   
   
3. If based on feed checking at anco like above mentioned have can be estimated daily feed requirement, hence feeding program better have started measured. At this condition, daily feeding frequency better have 3 times per day.
   
   
4. Conducting shrimp sampling at early time of second month or at a time of shrimp weight about 2.5 grams – 5 grams (can be conducted through sampling with anco or with fishnet). The objective of early sampling activity is to estimate life level of shrimp population in pond (SR=survival rate), quality and condition of shrimps, average body weight of shrimps and also shrimp biomass within pond.
   
   The early sampling result can be used to determine a feeding program that more measured and directed. If condition and population of shrimp’s relative good hence daily feeding frequency better have 5 times per day.
   
   Explanation related to program simulation and feeding frequency has been elaborated in former discussions.
   
   
5. At the time of feeding program have been compiled measure and directional, a basic matter which needed to pay attention is to adjust the feeding program based on monitoring/checking result at anco as according to requirement level of the shrimps which tend fluctuated depended from condition and quality of shrimps. Existence of amount of feed at anco at checking anco time divisible in 3 categories, that is (i) feed is used up, (ii) feed still remain and (iii) feed still intact.
   
   If feed at anco is used up at feed check time, this matter indicate that the shrimp’s eat passion relative good, hence adjustment of feeding program that able to be conducted is through addition of daily feed amount. Also conduct the same thing at same condition.
   
   If feed at anco still remain at feed check time, this matter indicate that the shrimp’s eat passion become degradation, hence adjustment of feeding program that able to be conducted is through reduction of daily feed amount. If this condition happened for several days hence can be conducted “fresh feed” giving to return the eat passion of shrimps. Conduct adjustment of feeding program if the eat passion of shrimps have ever been normally.
   
   If feed at anco still intact actually, hence this condition designate that feed is not consumed by shrimps. These conditions can indicating that have happened a serious problem for shrimps. Conduct a feed reduction drastically, besides also checking of pond bottom to know possibility of happened mass death of shrimps within pond. Needed decisions to take this condition depend on pond bottom check result and growth of shrimp condition.
   
   
6. Conducting routine and periodically ( 10 daily – 2 weekly) shrimp sampling (use the fish-net) to estimate life level of shrimp population in pond (SR=survival rate), quality and condition of shrimps, average body weight of shrimps and also shrimp biomass within pond.
   
   The periodically sampling result can be used as control tool to estimate growth of optimal FCR (Food Conversion Ratio) value.

Some efforts to get the optimal value FCR like above mentioned is striving in general able to be conducted, in implementation of the efforts is needed to adjust with condition and media of pond which used. The main principle which needed to use is the shrimp don’t be following us, but on the contrary we have to following the shrimp requirement.
