Shrimp Farming Area Development 5 – Facilities Approach

Smoothness of shrimp culture technical operation greatly influenced by the existence of adequate supporting facilities both from the quality and quantity so as not to become a significant obstacle to successful cultivation of favorable financial terms. Mainly, shrimp culture facilities consisting of two kinds, namely aquaculture production facilities needed for technical treatment, and supporting smoothness of shrimp culture process.

Shrimp culture production facilities commonly used, among other:
  1. Organic and inorganic fertilizer needed in the process of growth and maintain the quality of plankton;

  2. Lime is needed in the management of soil pH and pond waters pH;

  3. Chlorine used in the sterilization of pond water and pond bottom;

  4. Saponin that is used to eradicate predators and competitors in the shrimp ponds or help the process of ponds water management;

  5. Chemicals used in shrimp quality management and water quality (not recommended);

  6. Water wheel used for the circulation of oxygen and referrer dirt pond bottom and help in the process of water quality management;

  7. Ancho is used to control feeding programs and quality of shrimp;

  8. Nets and scales used in the sampling process to monitor growth and quality of shrimp;

  9. Water pumps and spiral hoses used for cleaning pond bottom;

  10. Scoop net to remove impurities on the surface of water pond.
In addition to shrimp culture production facilities as described above, its activities also should be supported by smooth technical support facilities and more permanent nature, ie:
  1. Electrical source and network;

  2. Transport for technical and principals cultivation purposes;

  3. Hatchery, if the region is an integrated shrimp farming development area;

  4. Procurement of shrimp feed, if the region is an integrated shrimp farming development;

  5. Cold storage, facilities used for accommodating and processing yields;

  6. Ice factory, is needed to maintain the quality of shrimp at harvest time until delivery to the cold storage;

  7. Facility repair and rehabilitation of ponds and its equipments;

  8. Supplying fuel facilities;

  9. Freshwater facilities.
Availability of shrimp culture on mentioned above needs monitoring and management in determining level of need and procurement in order to avoid gaps or excess items that can affect the production process. In an effort to overcome these problems need to consider the following matters:
  1. Total demands;

  2. Level of needs importance;

  3. Total stocks held at locations;

  4. Location of goods procurement facilities source;

  5. Total stocks held at the source procurement;

  6. The way of equipment / goods procurement;

  7. Quality of goods facilities;

  8. Price fluctuation.
Consideration of the above needs to be done because it is closely related to farming production costs that very influential on the 'profit value'.
