Socio-community as macro is mean a social and community condition that be present at around shrimp culture development area and it always interacted with activities and shrimp culture personnels within area as social relationship as well as other activitie. That situation is need an appropriate approach in order to make “a conducive climate”, accessiblity and acceptabilityof socio-community concerning shrimp culture area development. Some matters that it can be reviewed as logical basic are among others :

Love Your Shrimp

the shrimps is like a baby and you’re as their mom …..
love your shrimps, then they will give you more ….

A piece of that sentences above is one of view of point of philosophical aspect besides shrimp culture technical aspects. The shrimps are a creature that it have want and need to go through a period of their life. In it natural habitat, the shrimps are free to deciding and choosing the way to meet its demand.

On shrimp culture, the shrimps to be brought at artificial habitat that limited by “wall” of pond, until this condition can be said that it like a “jail” for shrimps. Within this artificial habitat, sometime the shrimps are not uncomfortable that it s caused by “X” factor. At this condition the shrimp just can giving a sign through “body language” to their “nurse” in order to repairing that uncomfortable condition in line with their want and need. If the shrimps can talk, then they will request help directly to their “nurse”.

A baby since borned have been belong want and need to go through a period of life. Cause of limited that it have (can’t walk yet, can’t talk yet, etc), then in order to meet it’s demand, the baby will give sign language to mom. If a baby have been care with love, then it will know somebody who care it, and at future it will reward again.

Believe it or not …………………… proof it!

My Story of This Week - 1

............based on true story
Do you want to know, what is a first sentence that I heard when I began as shrimp culture technician ? “Shrimp science is expensive !” This sentence have been pronounced from a senior practician to answered my question about how did he knew that the shrimp/s already affected by trouble and its must be harvested at less then a week, whereas as visually the shrimp within that pond was look fined. When I heard that answered, I just could grumble and complain ” You’re arrogant, guy ! you didn’t want given your knowledge to others”. But, what did he predicted was true, at less then a week, the shrimp/s at that pond was really must to harvested because its affected by serious trouble.

Since that moment, I had thoughtful and I took a positive thinking from that incident, there was “he knew, why I didn’t knew and I must learned it.”

Based on that a little bit story above, there are 3 point philosophy that it can be taken :
  1. Shrimp science like as other sciences is a science that can be learned by any bodies as long as he/she want. There are 5 keywords that can be implemented to learning shrim science : asking, implementing, monitoring, conclusing and evaluating.

    Asking : as long as don’t know something that related with shrimp science, try to find it answer with asking to anybody that believed know it.

    Implementing : try to implementing knowledge that it be found from asking process to within shrimp culture technical application.

    Monitoring : try to monitoring the changes/results from knowledge that it have implemented accurately.

    Conclusing: make a conclusion from a knowledge that it have implemented and formulating on cause-result relationship especially that related with shrimp culture technical treatment concerning shrimp condition.

    Evaluating toward all process above.

    The discussion like mentioned above is a learning process to learn practically shrimp science.

  2. Don’t be feel satisfied and rightfully proud with shrimp science that have belonging, because the shrimp science is very complexity and it have characteristic then other sciences.

  3. Disseminating that shrimp science to anybodies who need it as well as succesfully although failure of shrimp culture.
As closing from this story, let’s we promoted a sustainable Indonesia Shrimp culture, show to the world that we can ……….

Beware of The Rainy Season

As tropical country, Indonesia have two seasons within a year, there are : (i) rainy season, and (ii) dry season. Both of the seasons are very influential for shrimp culture system especially that it related with shrimp culture technical. At this moment, it will be discussed about bewared of the rainy season on implementing shrimp culture activities, because at this moment in Indonesia is going on rainy season.

Several points that it need to be waried ath the rainy season related with technical shrimp culture, among others are :
  1. Waters quality stability level. At rainy season, waters quality is inclined unstable and fluctuated also at extreme condition it will happen decreasing waters quality drastically. Like it have been discussed before, waters quality was closed with plankthon (phytoplankthon) activities (photosynthesis process) on produced chlorophyl that its beneficial for preserved equally of waters ecosystem. Photosynthesis process by plankthon (phytoplankthon)is very depend on by sun’s rays, whereas at the rainy season sun’s rays intensity is minimized until waters quality inclined unstable. At very high rain fall happen, it’s often met “plankthon collaps” phenomena, it’s mean the plankthons within waters becoming massal mortality. At unstable waters quality condition, the shrimps is very easy to becoming stress and susceptible toward diseases infection.

  2. Waters inlet. In Indonesia, as generaally waters inlet that to be used for waters circulation is the waters that to be took from marine/coastal or big river directly. At rainy season, waters inlet is turbid/soiled and dirty that caused by erotion process and waste and its brought by marine/river curent. Waters condition like this if to be used directly for waters circulation process will influenced for waters quality that is a particles presence within pond waters. This condition can resulting red gill disease infection for shrimps.

  3. Feeding program. At the rainy season, as usually feeding program (especially that it related with daily feeding) is disturbed, as well as it’s frequency or feed spread level. This condition more related with attitude and disciplinary from person who giving feed, because at rain condition usually a person have lazy attitude on giving feed. Changes of feeding frequency and feed is not spread evently, undirectly can resulting shrimp size is not uniform and at extreme condition the shrimp condition can becoming worst.
Based on discussion of several points like mentioned above, then technical treatmen that it be recommended in order to implemented at rainy season among others :
  1. Intensive fertilizing. At the rainy season, fertilizer must be given more intensively, this method is to preserving plankthon (phytoplankthon) stability within pond waters. The matter that need to be remember is : more better to give fertilizer in a few quantities but routine, then to give fertilizer in great quantities at plankthon collaps moment. Besides that, maximalized sun’s rays for give fertilizer.

  2. Maximalized water wheels operation. This treatmen to be need for optimazing fertilization process in order to preserving plankthon (phytoplankthon) stability. Water wheels operation also to be need for preserving waters condition so that it is not happen extreme difference between surface waters layer (that it caused by rain water) and bottom waters layer. Besides that, water wheels operaion also to adding oxigen supply within waters, because at rainy the oxigen that be produced by plankthon photosynthesis is decreasing drastically.


  3. “Oplos” water circulation. Oplos is mean a water circulation that to be implemented through a method filling up water and throwing water away do as simultaneously. This method also to be need for preserving waters condition so that it is not happen extreme difference between surface waters layer (that it caused by rain water) and bottom waters layer. If water inlet condition is turbid/soiled and dirty, for while don’ be implemented water circulation.

  4. Strictly monitoring on schedule and giving feed method especially at rainy moment.
The discussion like mentioned above were practically methods for get the better of shrimp culture technical at rainy season, then beware of the rainy season

Shrimp Culture Area Development - (5)

Shrimp Culture Equipment Approach

The successfully of shrimp culture operational is very influenced by suitable supporting equipment as well as its quality or its quantity in order to not becoming a serious trouble for shrimp culture activities (profitable shrimp culture). Generally, shrimp culture equipment divided by two categories, there are (i) shrimp culture production equipment that it to be need for technical treatment, and (ii) equipments for supporting shrimp culture activities process.

Shrimp culture production equipment that it to be used commonly, among others are :
  1. Organic and unorganic fertilizer that to be need on plankhon growing process and preserving plankthon quality;

  2. Lime that to be need on pond soil’s pH and water’s pH management;

  3. Chlorine (calcium hipochlorit) that to be used on sterilization of pond bottom and waters;

  4. Saponin that to be used for elimination of shrimp pedator and competitor within pond or it to be used as waters management stimulant;

  5. Chemical substance that to be used on shrimps and waters quality management (it is not recommended);

  6. Waterwheels that to be used for oxigen circulation and directing pond bottom waste also supporing on water quality management process;

  7. Ancho that to be used for controlling feeding program and monitoring shrimps quality;

  8. Jala and weight measure tool that to be used on shrimp sampling process for monitoring shrimp’s growth and shrimp’s quality;

  9. Water pump and spiral pipe that to be used for cleaning bottom of pond;

  10. Scoop (fish trap tool) that to be used for removing waste at waters surface.
Besides shrimp culture production equipment like mentioned above, then shrimp culture activities also it to be supported by equipments(or infrastructures) for supporting shrimp culture activities process and its more permanently, there are:
  1. Electricity source and it installation;

  2. Transportation for technical necesseray and shrimp culture implementor;

  3. Hacthery, if shrimp culture development area is an integrated area;

  4. Shrimp feed procurement, if shrimp culture development area is integrated area;

  5. Cold storage, facility that to be used for accommodate and processed shrimps that it harvest result;

  6. Ice factory, that to be need for preserving shrimp quality at harvesting process until sending to cold storage;

  7. Equipment for pond maintenance;

  8. Fuel procurement infrastructure;

  9. Fresh water infrastructures.
Shrimp culture equipment/infrastructure avalibilities like mentioned above are need special monitoring and management on deciding it’s necessity level and procurement in order to avoid empty or over stock with the result that can influenced production process. In order to take in hand that problems, it is need reviewed several things, there are :
  1. Quantities;

  2. Necessery urgent level;

  3. Stock quantties that ready at location;

  4. Equipment procurement source location;

  5. Stock quantities that ready at equipment procurement source location;

  6. Equipment procurement methods;

  7. Equipment qualities;

  8. Price fluctuation.
That reviewing at above is related with shrimp culture production cost that it very influenced on provit value.

Shrimp Culture Area Development - (4)

Shrimp Culture Technically Approach

As basicaly, shrimp culture technology is an integrated management system to making an environment condition within a pond in order to appropriate with shrimp habitat and behaviour as naturally starting at fry age phase till normal harvesting phase. Management system that include on shrimp culture technology, among others are :
  1. Determining shrimp culture pattern/system (intensive, semi-intensive, traditional, monoculture/multiculture, and culture frequency). Shrimp culture pattern/system that will be implemented must adjust with lan and water capabilities also technology and finance capabilities;

  2. Preparation of culture land (fry age phase) must making optimal conditions as really for suitability fries life, because it is an environment changes/transition from hatchery to pond environment;

  3. Selection of kind and quality of fry. Quality and quantity of fry must selected as really in order to get high survival rate and it’s not make a trouble since early;

  4. Water qualities management must refer on equally of water ecosystem within pond;

  5. Feeding program must following shrimp need in order to avoid over feeding that it can resulting decomposed at pond bottom and it dangerous for shrimp. Besides of that, feeding program must resulting low Food Coversion Ratio (FCR) value. The FCR value will influenced for profit value of shrimp culture at mentioned period.

  6. Shrimp growth and qualities management must be implemented as continuous in order to it’s technology and treatment that be given appropriate with shrimp condition;

  7. Shrimp culture troubles handling must appropriate with trouble maker, there are : environment, shrimp or treatment error, with the result that it decision making more be directed at trouble sources;

  8. Shrimp harvesting system. The pricipal of shrimp harvesting system is to keep quality and quantity of shrimps during harvesting process because it’s will influenced on shrimp price;

  9. Post harvest pond management. This activities is a process of sterilization and land reproductivity to shrimp culture activities at next period.
The application of shrimp culture technology as mentioned above is a unit that could not be separated, cause of that a decision making and treatment process must integrated as whole. Like on discussion before, the shrimp culture technology is not empirical yet that it could be used, as generally tecchnology that it usually to be used is still try and error.

One approach of shrimp culture technology that it be implemented is through equally of water ecosystem within pond that it appropriate with shrimp natural environment. The basic principal from this approach is : if one element of water ecosystem get a trouble, then it will happened unequally of that ecosystem and it will become a trouble for shrimps.

Water resources/coastal (marine) is significant component for shrimp culture activities, because this componen is shrimp’s habitat, with the result that it success is definite how the water quality capabilities as water resources for shrimp culture. Several aspects that need to be reviewed on fixed water/marine suitability level on shrimp culture activities, among others are :
  1. The water resources/marine is not open open waters (its recommended straint or bay), until the abration level and sedimentation at shrimp culture area is not high enough;

  2. The water qualities (physic, chemist and biology) is at normally limit for shrimp culture activities;

  3. The tidal pattern is semi-diurnal or diurnal that it capable for water circulation;

Indonesia Shrimp Culture is OK

Food Veterinary Office of European Union (FVO-EU) declared their satisfied on Indonesia shrimp culture after done the inspection in November 19-30. Director General of Processing and Marketing of Fisheries Product„Fisheries and Marine Affairs Department, Martani Huseini said, EU team was visited some shrimp ponds in East Java and also in Jakarta.

Even so, Martani added, it still needs regulation harmonization between Indonesia with EU. It needs harmonization between Fishery Regulation No. 31 with Food Law in EU,Martani said.

Director General of Culture Fisheries, Fisheries and Marine Affairs Department, Made L Nurdjana said, the inspection also focused on food safety, illegal drugs and antibiotic distribution. gEU also audits the culture process,Made said.
Not only EU, Food and Drug Association„USA which was also come to Indonesia, said their satisfaction on shrimp culture system in Indonesia. FDA USA was visited some shrimp ponds in Lampung, Medan and Bali. Whereas China government based on Martani will make Mutual Recoqnition Arrangement (MRA) about Health Certificate of commodity which will export to China.
