Shrimp Culture Management at First Month Phase 01 – Background

Shrimp farming as shrimp cultivation activities within a pond, hence time variable have an effect on to technical treatments which to be applied. Shrimp size can be said it have a proportional relationship with accretion of time, its mean on normal condition in line with the increasing of time, hence the shrimp size also will increase progressively.

First month at shrimp culture is a very strategic phase on determining efficacy of shrimp culture at a period either through technical and financially. Viewed from profit oriented farming process, hence first month phase at shrimp culture is an early step of cultivation of seed at the same time “cultivation of investment” which to determine the level of advantage to be reached for.

Shrimp culture at first month phase have a characteristic which can be made as consideration base on its management, there are among others:

1. At this phase, the shrimps still have small size, so that all activities / behavior and condition of shrimps within pond water yet can not be monitored clearly yet.
   
   
2. First month phase of shrimp culture, mainly can divided again onto 2 (two) sub-phases, there are: (i) early time till second week, and (ii) third week till fourth week. The two sub-phases is not an absolutely time range, because actually in field the sub-phase sub time can variously.
   
   Early time till second week sub-phase can be said as a “silence phase”, because there is not much technical treatment yet which applied, so that shrimp culture activities still felt “quiet”. A shrimp culture technical treatment still have “await and try” character, so at this sub-phase, technical treatment are not programmed yet.
   
   Third week till fourth week sub-phase is a time which very waited by shrimp culture actors with “hope to worry” expectation. Because at this sub-phase, shrimp existence indicator within pond water begin see. The indicator is shrimp appearing within pond water as well as on anco (lift net), it have important role enough on shrimp culture management at first month phase. If the shrimp begin appear, hence its will can predicted about condition, quality and population density within pond water as base on decision making related with technical of shrimp culture which it will be implemented at next phase.
   
   The shrimps appearing moment at third week till fourth week sub-phase is a momentum which can’t predict exactly, so it required a carefully monitoring onto pond water.

Considering on two characteristics above mentioned, hence the objective of shrimp culture management at first month basically is to prepare a pond water environment which according with fry/small shrimp need so it can preserve quality and quantity including shrimp conditions, shrimp uniform level, shrimp density/population, average body weight of shrimps, etc.

At first month phase, though there is not much technical treatment yet which applied program it should not disregard monitoring to possibility a happening of change of pond water environment condition and shrimp appearing momentum for first time. A comprehensive management program of shrimp culture is better having started to be arranged based on estimation which obtained from fry sampling result. The program of management which have arranged will more easy to accorded with shrimp need level based on its growth from time to time at a period cycle.
